Determining the IP block routing

Posted by HamidK, 02-01-2017, 03:55 PM
I have a dedicated server with an additional IPv4 block /26. I want to ask that how would I determine if the provider has routed this block to the same VLAN or not? Also, if it is routed to same VLAN, do I need to modify my ifcfg-eth0 to make this block working?

I wrote an article about this on my blog, but not sure I am allowed to post a link to it. You would need to create a ifcfg-eth0-range0 file and add this to it: IPADDR_START=10.65.192.67 IPADDR_END=10.65.192.70 CLONENUM_START=0 You can only use the IP addresses routed to your server. If they routed the entire block, then you would have 64 usable IPs. Otherwise, it'd likely be 61 usable IP addresses. Hope this helps!

Alright, but how do I figure out if the IP's are routed or not?

You ask your host for details.

You could try applying all 64 IPs and see if the first and last one route to your server (try connecting to them). If it doesn't work, then it must be a connected IP allocation. If it does work, then they are fully routed. The alternative is to just reach out to your provider and ask them which it is.
