Ovh cpanel invoice warning

Posted by Fuzoos, 01-30-2017, 03:23 PM
I just want to let everyone know, that if you don't manually cancel a cPanel license on OVH in the customer area it will automatically be added to your invoice on checkout. With most of OVH services if you don't pay or don't select the service on your invoice, it will cancel when it expires. I had a server which I stopped using cPanel on but still used the server. When I got the invoice I selected not to renew the cPanel license on the invoice page. When I click the go to payment page, it automatically added it to the payment page even though I selected not to renew it on the invoice page. Not thinking OVH had automatically added the cPanel license, I paid the amount. They don't issue refunds for cPanel licenses. Never heard of business adding things onto the invoice that I didn't select. Please beware!

Hi, cPanel has separate licensing, so they have to be paid if you the license on the IP is active. Did you check whether the invoice that you got is before the use or after, I mean to say, are you paying in advance for a service with OVH or you are using the service and at the end of month you are paying for it? If you are paying at the end of month, then the charges applied for the month will be applicable for no refund. Did you check this with their support?

Yes, you need to manually cancel it unless you cancel the whole server. That is how their system works.

Actually I never ended up using the cPanel license. I purchased it for the dedicated server but never installed it on the server. I totally understand having to cancel the license. But for them to auto add it to the invoice is just wrong. If you're familiar with how they invoice, you get an email stating "renewal of services" with a link. That link takes you to a page where it lists all your services you have with them and you check the boxes of what you want to renew. I checked the dedicated server and selected the drop down "No Renewal" for the cPanel license attached to the dedicated server. On the next page, where you actually pay, the cPanel license was added even though I selected not to have it renewed. If OVH is going to force users to renew the cPanel license, why even have an option to renew the cPanel license on the invoice? There is no refund for cPanel licenses at all. If you pay for the license, you've got it for the term. You have to go into the license section in the customer area and cancel the license before paying the invoice if you want to cancel. Obviously, most people are going to renew cPanel every month if that's what they use. People just need to be aware that even if they reformat the server and use another panel, as long as the cPanel license is active, OVH is going to auto charge for the license.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know, after pleading my case to OVH, they've credited my account for the cPanel license in the form of an addition month for the server which the cPanel license was attached. I'm glad things worked out in the end. But just be advised of what happened to me if you decide you don't want your cPanel license any longer.

That was nice of OVH but they really shouldn't have refunded you a dime. It doesn't actually matter that you never actually installed cPanel on the server or not; their obligation was and is to only provision a license to you for your use which they did. Now as to the problem of you selecting not to renew the server's cPanel license but it still showing up on the renewal - that's an entirely different issue. When portals act up (be it OVH, SoftLayer, LeaseWeb, Rackspace, etc.) it's usually just the browser. Switching to Firefox or Edge to do the task usually takes care of the issue that is experienced in Chrome (if you were using Chrome). When it comes to remittance of payment for services never just "guess" or "assume." If something looks out of place you note it immediately. The assumption as a provider is to assume everything is working as intended unless told otherwise. Yes, every once in a while a provider will run through their own system as a guest would see it (or at least you would hope - there are some pretty half... well, you know out there) but when it comes to billing and finances never just "guess" or "assume."

OVH is not that bad at all. If you just speak with them, they will help you out in most cases.
