Im looking to rent a dedicated server.. anyone know of a provider that would allow me to ship a 4g verizon hotspot and have them attach it via usb cable? I've talked to a few and they said only colo's offer that.. But maybe someone knows some smaller shops who can accomodate? Thanks

Keep trying to contact them and you'll eventually find one, as this is not something too uncommon, for example there are many customers with USB License keys for their softwares, that need it placed in the dedicated server in order to host their softwares.

Yes, I would not think this too complicated. But you'll need to find a provider that own's the facility, or that colocates and has their own gear, as I would think this hardware to find from a cookie-cutter reseller that has no control over the hardware. . .

One thing you must remember as well is often cell phone coverage within most DCs is terrible. This is due to all the networking cables creating a pseudo Faraday Cage. You will need to ask the host how the service for Verizon is. Also would be easier to ask them to mount a PCI X card on a riser card as having a hot spot sitting somewhere can cause issues with doing maintenance on other servers

PCI-X card might cost you remote hand fees, whereas a usb stick should not ...

You won't get a good connection inside the Data Center that for sure maybe in the lobbies but not where the servers physically are I'm sure some providers wouldn't mind it though.

Do you have a location you need this in? Most providers shouldn't have an issue with this long as you are willing to cover the return shipping fees. That is if it's just a usb stick that plugs into the back of the system. Service in some data centers is rather poor however this isn't the case with all data centers.

It's an interesting use case. As far as checking connectivity, you could ask the DC folks to see if one of their people got a Verizon phone and see if they can get voice/data connection inside the server room
