Hello I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of cloud hosting for a small hosting company that is expanding rapidly compared to just buying dedicated servers. Thanks Walid

Positive is the high availability functions. Negative is the costs associated with setting it up. Just stating you have a cloud and actually having one are quite a few $$$$ apart from one another.

Compared to traditional hosting, licensing costs are significantly higher. However, if you target the right clientèle then those costs are more than offset by people willing to pay for that "next" level of performance and reliability - the two driving features of cloud hosting.

Thanks both for your replies. I have always liked cloud hosting and many hosting provders do offer it. I always thought that cloud hosting was pretty flexible compared to buying a dedicated server and the maintenace to go with it is most likely less then with a dedi server. I'll pick wisely when started my own company.

I think the cost is high for the provider, not for the end customer who sells the services over the cloud or uses it for any other purpose.

Well there is a big difference between Shared Cloud Hosting and VPS Cloud Hosting. VPS Cloud Hosting is much better.

If I started a web hosting company would it be better of me todo with cloud hosting first instead of buying a dedicated server.? It would give me the flexiblity to expand.

Only if you feel you have the $$$ to plunk down up front for some serious redundant hardware. Don't be on of those "cloud" providers that doesn't have redundancy and fallover.

There is a big difference between cloud hosting in general. NOT all clouds are actually clouds, some advertise as clouds but they are merely giving you cloud like functionality without the reliability of the cloud, there are a few well known providers doing just that on this board.

At first I just want to offer shared and reseller but on cloud hosting instead of me buying a dedicated server and maybe offer cloud hosting from a reseller.

Cloud hosting are scalable as you can add and remove the storage based on your own needs. Disadvantage is you have rely upon your third party companies for your data security. So make sure you trust them.

Yes I understand the need to trust a third party for my data security but don't most use encrypted technology on there storage arrays and I would use a another off-site place for data backs not just relying on my provider.
